Clear Lake near Silverton, Colorado
July 9, 2022
After inching along up steep switchbacks on a primitive road for several miles, we arrive at Clear Lake. Several times during the drive, we had to pass vehicles coming from the opposite direction. There were several tense moments as we passed within inches of each other when we were not on one of the switchbacks. The vehicle on the outside of the road was right on the top edge of huge, steep slopes. The upper part of the road is above the timberline, so there are no trees along the road. Go off the road, the the vehicle would likely roll for up to a half mile or so.
The weather was beautiful, but at an elevation of 12,000 feet above sea level, it was almost chilly in the middle of the day.
To get an idea of the scale of the lake and mountains, zoom in closely and look at the right edge of the large image above to see a person walking along a path. The photo above is a stitch of three images using Photoshop.
Below are some of the surrounding views of the area and the lush vegetation. Mouse over the image for popup text. Click on the image for an enlarged view.
